
My friend recently shared some incredible stories about God’s faithfulness during a really tough time. She was out of a job, and the anxiety about bills — mortgage, loans, utilities, the seemingly endless list of financial responsibilities — was overwhelming.
Then, God stepped in.
One day, after a heartfelt conversation with God from her bed, she received a text message offering exactly the amount of money she needed. Later, an acquaintance she wasn’t even close to offered to pay tens of thousands of dollars in her bills. And then, a relative living abroad sent her a barrel filled with household goods, a kind of generosity she’d never experienced before. It was miracle after miracle, provision after provision. To top it all off, she even got her job back, something that had seemed highly improbable.
I often wonder if we, as Christians, can truly grasp the sovereignty and magnanimity of the God we serve. Far too often, we become paralyzed by fears of the future and by the inevitable trials and tribulations that life throws our way. In our fear, we sometimes miss out on some profoundly important truths:
- God’s promises endure;
- Nothing can separate us from His love; and
- Those who keep their focus on Him will experience perfect peace.
Lamentations 3:22-23 beautifully reminds us: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” This means that no matter how dark life gets, we won’t be engulfed. The truth is, He still leads his children through the valley of the shadow of death.
In my own life, I’ve learned that God seems to delight in coming to our rescue. Too often, we carry burdens ourselves that we should have handed over to Him from the very beginning. I believe when we truly hand those burdens to Him, that is when we get to experience God in all His power and glory. Try it for yourself.
